Welcome to the ELCA
Where Do You Find Refuge?
Jesus promises to gather us into his arms and shelter us with mercy. Discover this extravagant love in an ELCA congregation near you, and visit the ELCA Facebook page to find timely reflections from thousands of Lutherans across the country.
The Lenten season begins on Feb. 17 -- Ash Wednesday -- and lasts for 40 days. The forty days of Lent recall the 40 day fast of Jesus in the wilderness after his baptism (Matthew 4:2, Luke 4:1-2) and Moses' 40 day fast on Mount Sinai (Exodus 34:28). It is a time of simplicity and preparation.
Lent is also a time when ELCA members gather for midweek services. Congregations may host meals and it is a good time to connect with one another on the journey. Find a congregation near you and make a visit during Lent.
