Shelley Wickstrom re-elected bishop of ELCA Alaska Synod

The Rev. Shelley R. Wickstrom, Anchorage, was re-elected April 27 to serve asecond six-year term as bishop of the Alaska Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The election was held during the Synod Assembly April 27-29 at Central Lutheran Church in Anchorage.

The bishop was re-elected on the first ballot with 68 votes. A total of 63 votes was needed for election.

Wickstrom has served as bishop of the Alaska Synod in Anchorage since 2012. She served as ELCA coordinator for missional leadership in Region 1 from 2007 to 2012 and as pastor of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Bozeman, Mont., from 1999 to 2007.  

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif., in 1981 and a Master of Divinity from Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1986. Wartburg is one of seven ELCA seminaries.
